The general desire for democracy in Slovakia in the last decade has meant in the minds of the Slovaks above all the possibilities to realize their potential and desires, rights, longings and opportunities. But democracy implies not only the rights but also the duties, and thus it recalls also a citizen discipline and a firm and upright attitude to the problem solving.
    .
The development of lifestyle in Slovakia has been influenced mainly by the arising of possibilities to gain virtually anything. If we take into consideration a huge transfer of property from the state to the private hands, formation of politics, various structures and elites, the overall change in the hierarchy of values prevailing in the Slovak society, we get the picture of a complete economic turn and a lifestyle change in Slovakia.
    .
The economic power finding its expression in the financial dimension of property has been currently put on the main pedestal in dealing with society’s problems. At the second place we meet with the efforts to get rich “at any price”. Meanwhile only a few ponder on their responsibility connected with the administration of the gained property.
.
These facts shape very negatively the lifestyle in the Slovak Republic. A dividing line has been set up between those who can afford everything because of their extraordinary solvency and those subjected to the laws who have a feeling of alienation because the law regulations and structures along with the state power instruments treat them in the same “just” way as it used to be the case in the past

All this affects very strongly the changes in lifestyle in Slovakia. Various factors affect the lifestyle in Slovakia, not only the transformation of ownership but along with other things the business ethics in particular. On this background it is highly topical to develop a humane approach in dealing with the possibilities of life needs solving among all groups of the society so that the Slovak Republic become a really humane market economy society within the European Union structures. The underestimation of problems solving as well as a further deferment of life improvement of the Slovak citizens would indirectly and fruitlessly lead to an ineffective economy as well as to a criminalization and corruption of the whole society - and this is not actually desired by anyone.

The lifestyle in Slovakia stems from the Christian traditions of saint Cyril and Methodius. The lifestyle of citizens in lowland and mountainous areas, living predominantly in towns and cities, but also in the countryside, is influenced by the position of Slovakia in the heart of Europe. It is marked, as anywhere in the world, by everyday joys, sorrows and worries. It depends solely to which part of society one belongs to, whether they are employed, how solvent they are and what their interests and social aims are.
    .
The overall majority of the Slovak citizens keep a regular routine of working week consisting of an early get-up, morning hygiene, breakfast, travelling to work and school, actual mostly eight and a half-hour working activity, after-work errands, travelling back home to the house or apartment, preparation of a dinner, evening television watching, evening and sleeping.
    .
The history teaches us that Slovaks in consequence of their lifestyle have always been diligent, adaptable, inventive and hospitable. They were able to overcome the society’s tremors very fast and therefore they lived within the community of European nations in principle at a relatively high level of living standards. The relax of people in their leisure time and during their work leaves has mainly an active character. Its forms are particularly the work in the garden, house, apartment or vehicle maintenance and likewise. A passive form of relax is rather an exception as a rule

.
That´s why the Slovaks have always been a sought and recognized workforce. Their potential to succeed in the world is well-known. Their culture of living is characterised by clean, architecturally stylish and well-maintained interiors and exterior surroundings. The hygiene of food processing has always been at a high level. The public places of residential zones, and in the last years the surroundings of companies and factories, too, have been embellished by planting the greening, mostly ornamental shrubs and flowers in the park arrangement. In the last years some cultural monuments, historic cores of towns and tourist resorts have been restored and elevated as well. The specific lifestyle in Slovakia can be divided in terms of historical development, characteristic natural settings, particular spirit of landscape and a broad range of folk traditions by different regions like, for instance, Záhorie, Orava, Kysuce, Liptov, Šariš, Zemplín and likewise. The lifestyle of population and the preservation of cultural traditions have kept its characteristic features which have been always admired within the tourist industry, until now in particular at the exhibitions throughout the world or at typical cultural events in the advanced countries of the world. By a high educational level of the population in Slovakia is the standard of living relatively high. Thus the Slovaks with their lifestyle have always been a part of and belonged to Europe such as Europe has always been a part of and belonged to Slovakia
