At our school the Project
Socrates has a long tradition. Our application for membership was for the
first time successful as early as in the years 1998/1999. At that time there
were only a few schools that knew about the possibility to work on the
project.
Our new three– year–long project was called “Folklore and festivals “.
Under the leadership of the coordinating Belgian school in Wavre
we cooperated on part topics with schools in Spanish Barcelona and the
Slovak secondary grammar school in Metodova street during three school
years. The first topic was “ Christmas “ , in the next year “ Easter “ .
The students under the leadership of their teachers were looking for
interesting information about their family, their vicinity and prepared
textual as well as visual material or a videocassette containing a complete
characteristics of their country. It was not easy to choose among a lot of
customs, meals, decorations and songs just the most typical, close to the
students of the school and also interesting for students abroad. The outcome
of the project was and is a lot of many-lingual brochures with rich graphic
layout, photos, audio and video tapes.
In the last year the project was oriented to the field of regional
culinary and recipes called Regional recipes.
The task was to choose ten interesting meals that people in a given country
like to prepare and eat as well as to elaborate a picture cook book in the
mother and one world-spoken language.
Our school was given the task to prepare five recipes because we shared
the work with students of the secondary grammar school in Metodova street .
As early as during selecting meals at school was formed a group of
enthusiastic students who gradually proved to be first of all clever,
well-informed people very inventive and craving to attract attention and
surprise by their work even abroad.
Among the students appeared excellent cooks who prepared meals as well
as wrote down detailed recipes to them. The students good at languages
translated the recipes into English that is together with the French
language the “ official “ language of the whole project. We ourselves could
not believe that there were so clever caricaturists, photographers and
computer graphics among the students.

.
In the school year 2002 -2003 our second
application for the project Socrates was successful. It was a
common project with the schools in Spanish Barcelona and Romanian
Foscani. The coordinating school was the school in Holland
Beverwijk. The output of the project under the name of “European
Youth Cultures “ was the international magazine about the youth
Mirrors. The magazine reflected
the youth´s opinion on the most different questions of life. The
contributors were the students of all the four schools which
worked under the leadership of international editorial boards.
Each of them chose the main topic of their contributes, topics
interesting for young people: drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, TV,
classical and modern music, dances, interesting architecture,
emancipation, teacher-student relations. The teachers –
coordinators were asked to write not only simple articles but also
essays, feuilletons, celebrities´ portraits, interviews or
questionnaires. The most active students took part in the project
meeting in Barcelona. This change regarding the possibility of
using provided Socrates financial help is a great motivation as
well as award for students.
In the school year 2003-2004 work is going on under the name
How the life in my country has changed in the recent 30 years.
