The High Tatras are the highest and 1200 long part of Carpatian Arch. Tourists from all over the world come to see and visit these unique mountains. The High Tatras are decided into: Western and Eastern. 

The most visited part is the Eastern one. It is created by two different geomorphological items the granite High Tatras with lots of thuristic paths, railway, with a cablenay and ski lifts and the less accessible Belianske Tatras. The High Tatras are known as the smallest european mountains.

The unexpected change

It happened in November 2003. In the evening million of Slovak spectators watched wordless the news.

The High Tatras, the pride of Slovakia were destroyed, because of the unirluind. The strenght of the wind was over 100 km per hour. On the area of 46 000 hectares 12 000 hectares of conifeaus forest were totally destroyed and the other 12 000 hectares were damaged.

The change is horrible. It will take about 100 years to reach it previous look.
