Now we are for the first year at this school, so it
was good news for us to go for a trip. This excursion was part in the
project called Socrates.
-
The topic of this trip seemed good- a project about
beavers! Our teacher told us that some clever books (published around
the year 1990) do not tell the truth about the existence of beavers.
These books tell about the extinction of beavers.
-
The truth is this excursion will not be a romantic walk on a beaver’s
trace.
-
Our first stop was in
Slávičie údolie (Nightingale’s valley) in the western part of
Bratislava and we heard some information about famous Slovak
personalities (who are buried here) explained by professor Caltikova
instead of looking for beavers. Because in this beautiful valley of
nightingales is a cemetery.
-
We were especially interested in
Alexander Dubček grave. He was a politician,
who tried to democratise the socialistic system in 1968.
-
We have found out some interesting
facts about war pilots of Slovak and Czech origin, who during The WW
II. Fought against fascism. After the WWII. They were persecuted and
judged, because these pilots did not fight on the Russian side. Many
of them who died in a foreign country could not be bury in their own
country till 1989. The testimony of this are
the mortal remains of Oto Smik.
-
However we were happy to leave
Bratislava, we have again stopped under Devin castle (part of
Bratislava). Our professor told us and showed us, where the iron
curtain between socialistic and capitalistic countries was situated.
Although in this area lived citizens, they could not walk near this
border without special permission. This area was surrounded by two
barbed wires with flares. The area
between these two barbed wires was poured by sand out, so a soldier
could see a bird’s trace too. To remind us, that we not divided from
western world we caught our hands and made
a human chain.
-
And beavers were still out of sight…
The next stop was in a small village
Vysoká pri Morave. We visited
the director of school, who told us about beavers in Slovakia.
-
In the wood of Plavecký Štvrtok
a real woodsman waited for us,
who had shown us where beavers live. We saw gnawed trunks of trees but
we did not see the beavers. Only a person who stays in the wood for a
long time should see a beaver! It was unforgettable experience! The
woodsman told us something about their habits, food and about their
architectural art.
-
There was still another journey
before us- a national monument in Bradlo called The Cairn of M.
R. Štefánik.
-
On the way home we saw a natal home
of Jan Holly- who had codified Slovak language.
