On 1st January 1993
the Czecho-Slovakian Federative Republic separated into two independent
states the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

The first country that officially acknowledged the
Slovak Republic as an independent state was Federal Republic of Germany.
It happened just a minute before its independence was proclaimed. Within a
few hours of its independence on 1st January 1993 other
countries handed in documents confirming the new state acknowledgement.

At the beginning of the new independent Slovak Republic
money of the previous state Czechoslovakia was used. In February 1993 the
currency separation was carried out and Slovak crown began its existence.
Stamped federal banknotes were first Slovak money. Later the National Bank
of Slovakia issued its own coins and banknotes.

On 19th January 1993 the Slovak Republic
became a member of the United Nations Organization at the session of its
general assembly. The Slovak Republic became 180th member state
of the United Nations Organization.
