The town Malacky - yesterday and today

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The population of our town is about 20 000 inhabitants. It is the centre of Záhorie the western part of Slovakia.

  • The last ten years negatively marked the historical heart of Malacky. The main connecting highway link (Bratislava-Prague) was projected directly to the historical centre. Lot of new modern buildings were built in the Malacky and majority of historical buildings and cultural remains were depreciated. Hotel Tatra –building in Art Neveau style.

  • The Jewish synagogue has survived because of the inability to build a new cultural building. Nowadays there is a School of Art.

 

 
  • To the latest remains belongs The holy stairs St. Mary´s Church. The mess is processing on knees.

  • During the period of socialism a large-scale enterprises grew up as ZTS (machine enterprise) and Kablo (electro technical enterprise), as well as smaller wood processing industry and food industry (distillery).

  • The pride of Malacky is a castle park, which was totally devastated during totalitarian period. Today it is renewed by PHARE funds.
